Description

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly influencing healthcare operations, clinical decision-making, workforce planning, quality improvement, financial performance, and strategic planning. As healthcare organizations adopt AI-enabled technologies, nurses serving on boards and governance bodies are expected to provide informed oversight, evaluate organizational risks and opportunities, and contribute to decisions regarding AI strategy, investment, implementation, and accountability. However, many nurses in governance roles have not received formal education in AI fundamentals, data training processes, AI-enabled decision support, ethical considerations, or the governance implications of emerging technologies. This educational gap limits the ability of nurse governors and board members to effectively assess AI-related proposals, evaluate organizational readiness, monitor performance and return on investment, address ethical and equity concerns, and ensure responsible stewardship of AI-enabled systems

AI for Nurses on Boards addresses these needs by providing foundational AI knowledge and governance-focused competencies that enable nurses to critically evaluate AI technologies, apply a governance lens to AI adoption, support ethical and equitable decision-making, oversee organizational change, and contribute strategically to the responsible integration of AI across healthcare organizations.
