In today's rapidly evolving healthcare environment, it is crucial to base clinical decisions on the best available research evidence, combined with clinical expertise and patient preferences. In this course, you will explore key components of evidence-based clinical practice (EBCP). Topics that will be covered in this course include formulating clinical questions, exploring types of research evidence, and exploring the six steps that you should take to incorporate this robust approach into your practice. You will start by learning about the models and foundations of this approach and then you will explore scenarios and vignettes that utilize these techniques.

What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion of this micro-course, you should be able to:

  • Analyze the importance of Evidence-Based Clinical Practice (EBCP) in clinical settings.
  • Describe the core principles of EBCP.
  • Describe each step of the 6-step model of EBCP.
  • Explain how to the PICO(T) framework is used.
  • Examine the differences in the quality of different types of research and their applicability to patient care.
  • Name some of the statistical methods used in clinical research, including descriptive and inferential statistics and measures of risk used to interpret study findings.
  • Assess clinical case scenarios in which practitioners synthesize the best available evidence and develop a plan using the EBCP approach.
