Description
Stigma is a major barrier to mental health treatment. People with mental illness often face discrimination, prejudice, and social isolation. This can make it difficult for them to seek help or receive the correct treatment and can lead to worse mental health outcomes. As a counselor, you can make a significant impact on your clients by understanding and addressing stigma directly with them.
This micro-course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to understand and address stigma in your work as a counselor. Your will learn about the different types of stigma, its impact on individuals, and how to identify and address stigma in your counseling sessions. You will also learn about the importance of culture when working with clients who have experienced stigma. Finally, you will be provided with a review of Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and how to address stigma from a REBT approach.
