Across the United States, legislators have begun to target diversity initiatives in state agencies, schools, and private companies. As these initiatives are fought, the impact on social determinants of health could potentially be impacted. Social determinants of health and health equity are important initiatives in the United States. In this presentation, Dr. Stamps will explore DEI and the impact of anti-DEI legislation.

Faculty Bio
Dr. Deborah C. Stamps
Deborah C. Stamps. EdD, MBA. MS, RN, GNP, NE-BC CDE@, FAAN is the founder and chief executive officer of Deborah Stamps Consulting, LLC. Dr. Stamps has over thirty years of progressive healthcare leadership experience and is an internationally recognized authority on workforce development, diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, nursing education, and leadership. She has held a variety of roles, from LPN to RN and from chief nursing officer to vice president of quality, patient safety, and innovation. She was the founding president of the Rochester General College of Health Careers and the inaugural chief diversity officer at Rochester Regional Health. Dr. Stamps created the Professional Academic Workforce (PAW) model to advance the educational and economic mobility of underrepresented minorities in nursing by establishing partnerships between healthcare, community, and academic organizations. Dr. Stamps has published in peer-reviewed journals on the innovative, collaborative nurse leadership model; the Chief Nursing Officer Council; diversity, equity, and inclusion; workforce development and academic clinical practice partnerships. Dr. Phyllis D. Morgan
Dr. Phyllis D. Morgan completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Florida State University. Dr. Morgan completed her MS in Primary Ambulatory Care Nursing from Hampton University School of Nursing. She is the first Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in nursing graduate from Hampton University. Dr. Morgan is the first recipient of a PhD in Nursing from a Historically Black College and University in the world. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in health disparities research at The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.
Dr. Morgan is a highly regarded nurse educator, nurse practitioner, and nurse researcher. Dr. Morgan has been a nurse educator since 2004. She has been a board-certified nurse educator since 2011. She is Senior Core Faculty for the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty at Walden University College of Nursing. She has been a certified family nurse practitioner (FNP) for nearly 25 years. Dr. Morgan has practiced as a FNP in clinical areas, such as college health, women’s health, primary care, military care, retail, and urgent health care. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Dr. Morgan's areas of research focus on African American men’s and women’s health issues. She has received several awards, has published several research articles and has presented at national and international conferences. She has been awarded several grants focused on health disparities issues among African Americans.
Dr. Morgan was interviewed on Sirius XM radio in 2021 and 2022 for breast cancer awareness month. In 2022-2023, Dr. Morgan was accepted in the first cohort for the National League for Nursing and Walden University College of Nursing Social Determinants of Health & Social Change Leadership Institute.
