This presentation provides attendees with a framework for working with children and adolescents in therapy in both school and mental health settings. This session will focus on understanding developmental stages that can contribute to understanding presenting behaviors in children and adolescents. The presentation will also focus on examples of theory and therapeutic interventions that work well with this population in both school and clinical settings.

Faculty Bios
Elizabeth Ventura, PhD, LPC, NCC
Dr. Elizabeth Ventura is a licensed professional counselor and a senior core faculty member at Walden University in the School of Counseling. As a senior faculty member, Dr. Ventura serves on multiple committees and designs licensure prep workshops and study aids for students to help with licensing exams. Dr. Ventura loves serving on the skills committee and teaching techniques of counseling. Dr. Ventura is also President of Associates in Counseling & Wellness, a private therapy practice. She has been practicing clinically since 2004. She has been clinically trained at the University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH, The Cleveland Clinic, and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Ventura has presented at numerous local, state, and national conferences on the treatment of trauma, attachment, and treating children and adolescents. Dr. Ventura has written several text books, including two recent text books on the DSM-5. Dr. Ventura has had extensive experience treating adults and children, couples and families struggling with various mental health and developmental conditions. She has specific training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and other trauma specific interventions. She has spent a majority of her training working across the lifespan from childhood to adulthood, and within family systems. In addition, Dr. Ventura has specific training in addiction, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, self- esteem, impulse-related conditions, self-injury, and mood disorders. Dr. Ventura’s practice works in school districts to serve students that are at high risk for outside placement or those students that may have a significant trauma history. Lastly, she serves as a consultant to attorneys on trauma related cases, and serves as an expert witness on child abuse and trauma related cases.
Jazzmine Williams, MS, LPC-S, NCC, CMHT
Jazzmine Williams received a masters in Marriage and Family Counseling from Mississippi College. Currently, she is in her third year in the CES program and is the Research & Scholarship Committee Chair for CSI. She has over nine years of experience in counseling children and adolescents. Jazzmine is a licensed professional counselor supervisor for the state of Mississippi. In a continued mission to help children, she works as a behavior specialist in a local school district and is the owner of Williams Counseling & Consulting Services, LLC. Her life goal is to help children and adolescents who struggle with their daily life due to their disorders.
Kristi Massey, MS, LPC, NCC
Kristi Massey has been a school counselor for the past 17 years. She earned her Master’s degree from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. She is licensed in both Ohio and Texas. Prior to being a school counselor, she was a special education teacher for eight years. She is in her third year in the CES program and specializing in trauma and crisis, an area she is very passionate about. Kristi is a member of CSI a part of the CSI Leadership Bootcamp.
