Join us as we discuss and explore the importance of creating a healthy risk-taking culture through rapport, engagement, role modeling, and data to support student growth in counselor and school counselor identity development at their field sites. Come explore tips and tricks for high student engagement through data driven instruction from both the supervisory role of the university and graduate student perspectives. Includes helpful hints for student data-driven engagement in the classroom, overcoming obstacles, and implications for faculty group supervision in our current technological culture.

Faculty Bios

Traci L. Test, PhD, LPC-S, NCC, CSC (TX)

Traci L. Test is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)-Supervisor, National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the NBCC, and a Certified School Counselor (CSC) in Texas. Her education experience includes a doctorate in Counseling from Texas A&M University-Commerce, a Master of Education in School Counseling from Dallas Baptist University, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Test has 12 years of experience as a school counselor, and as an elementary teacher for 7 years before that in both Florida and Texas. She has also worked as an assistant clinical director at a community counseling center where she supervised interns and facilitated operations. Subsequently, Dr. Test has been a counselor educator since 2015, is a trained play therapist, sandtray therapist, parent relationship trainer (formerly filial therapy), crisis counselor, and has specialized in counseling children and adolescents as a licensed counselor since 2008. Her published articles include ambiguous loss and how children deal with them, pivoting in the school counselor profession after the pandemic, and counseling stages within in the working client/counselor relationship. She has presented at the state and local level on school counselor internship, self-care, bibliotherapy in school counseling, ethical implications of the supervisory role, working with nontraditional graduate school students in field experience, broaching sexual implications within session, dual role of LPC-S & school counselor on campus, military family secondary trauma, and recognizing suicidal ideations in children. She is currently serving as a core faculty member in the School of Counseling Department at Walden University.

Talia Leone

Talia Leone is a dynamic and compassionate professional with a strong foundation in childhood education, counseling, and community support. She earned her Master of Science in School Counseling from Walden University in the spring of 2024 and her Bachelor of Art from Rowan University. She was able to maintain a high level of academic excellence, including a positive work ethic, peer engagement, as well as the ability to continue to serve her community. Talia’s background includes providing hands-on experience specializing in working with medically fragile students, establishing inclusive environments, and advocating for their needs. Additionally, she has volunteered as a crisis counselor with the Crisis Text Line, offering support to individuals in crisis. Currently, Talia is applying her expertise as a school counselor intern at Pine Hill Middle School where she provides counseling and group sessions to students, coordinating aspects of the campus comprehensive school counselor program, and is moving forward in procuring a full-time school counseling role. Talia continues to be dedicated to lifelong learning, advocating for social justice, and inspiring others to reach their fullest potential.
