Description

Jinnelle Veronique Powell, MS, LPC-S, EMDR Certified Therapist, EMDR CIT presents this pre-recorded 60 minute webinar. This program will engage participants in understanding the foundational concepts of relational-cultural theory (RCT) and its explanation of human development as a relational process. Participants will be introduced to the history of RCT and provided a list of early, seminal works by RCT scholars Jean Baker Miller, Carol Gilligan, Irene Stiver, Maureen Walker, Laura Hartling, Judith Jordan, Amy Banks, and Belle Liang. Participants will be introduced to growth-fostering relationships in which Jean Baker Miller posited that individuals experience “the five good things”: (1) increased self-worth, (2) zest, (3) an increased desire to connect, (4) increased clarity about oneself and others, and (5) a sense of empowerment (Miller & Stiver, 1997). The program will introduce key terms within RCT: mutuality, mutual empowerment, mutual empathy, authenticity, relational competence, disconnections, central relational paradox, relational images, controlling images, shame, and relational resilience. This course will be delivered in a live webinar format and has text, interactive activities, and an assessment.
