Description

Effective patient advocacy can ensure patient-centered care and improve healthcare outcomes. This micro-course is designed to equip working nurses, nursing leaders, and nursing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective advocates for their patients and to actively participate in shaping healthcare outcomes.

This micro-course will teach nurses in the workplace, in management/leadership, and students what Patient Advocacy is and how to engage as an effective patient advocate to optimize the health of patients.

Faculty Bio

Dr. Ann Kriebel-Gasparro, DrNP, FNP, GNP, FAANP

Dr. Ann Kriebel-Gasparro is a Walden University faculty member. She has been a family and gerontological nurse practitioner since 1997 and has been a nurse since 1985 in a variety of settings: in-hospital, outpatient, oncology, primary care, neurology, and house calls. She has been teaching nurses and nurse practitioners for over 20 years. Dr. Kriebel-Gasparro has published articles on gerontological care, climate change, and care of the older adult male. Her experiences and struggles as a nurse and nurse practitioner were the inspiration for this course to inspire nurses and NPs to prioritize their self-care to prevent burnout and maintain resilience.

Accreditation

Walden University is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development through the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Provider Unit P0469.

Criteria for Obtaining Contact Hours

This micro-course contains one module. Module content includes overviews and descriptions, engagement activities, resources, and a final assessment. Within 180 days of the course purchase date, follow these steps to claim contact hours:

Read a minimum of 80% of the content in each module,
Complete all activities,
Correctly answer at least 80% of the assessment quiz items
Complete the end-of-course evaluation, and
Download and print or save your contact hour certificate.
