Description

What is the nature of human society? How do people learn to live together in a society? Why do some groups seem to have more power or prosperity than others? These are questions critical to anyone working in a helping field, such as health care, education, or human services. Understanding how societies function and how people relate to one another in societies is the focus of the field of sociology. In this course, you will learn about the basic concepts of sociology and how they can be used to understand human societies, ultimately for the purpose of promoting positive social change.

In this course, you will complete a series of practical assessments that show you have gained the knowledge and skills required for this subject area and then submit your assessments for review by a university faculty member. Upon receiving a passing score you can receive academic credit for the 5-credit Walden course SOCI1001 Introduction to Sociology.

The credit you will earn from these courses will be counted as “transfer credit” from the School of Lifelong Learning and can be applied to Walden’s BS in Health Studies and other programs. Some institutions may accept this credit, others may not. Walden cannot guarantee the transferability of credit earned through its programs to other institutions. Residents of NY, RI, CT, and ND are not eligible to apply for academic credit at Walden University or receive a transcript from Walden.
