Description

Judy Daniels, EdD, CRC presents this pre-recorded 90 minute webinar. The double pandemic of racism and COVID-19 has impacted our clients and communities in unprecedented ways. Both professionally and personally, we may not have been prepared for or even imagined how this double pandemic would impact us. Now more than ever, advocacy for clients, communities, and the profession is critical. However, the advocacy and the leadership skills required to be an effective change agent need to be developed and nurtured to create a meaningful impact. This presentation will look historically at advocacy within the counseling profession and connect that to present-day issues that clients, communities, and the profession face. Danielss discusses advocacy strategies and approaches, and attendees reflect on how they might develop their skills and become advocate-leaders when working with clients, communities, and the profession.

What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion of this activity, you will be able to:

  • Describe the history of advocacy within the counseling profession and the significance of the development and evolution of the advocacy and multicultural competencies, and reflect on the current impact of the double pandemic
  • Identify examples of how social justice advocacy has been supported and blocked within the counseling profession, and identify leadership and counseling skills for being an effective advocate even in the face of challenges
  • Reflect on the skills and strategies that were presented and be able to articulate how to apply them to the work you do
  • Connect the importance of advocating for the profession and for clients as a means of increasing access and equity for underserved client populations
