Prof. Lum’s presentation aims to investigate the factors that contributed to the unprecedented natural disaster in Lahaina, Maui in October 2023, and to explore the planning structures, current efforts, and plans for rebuilding. Additionally, Prof. Lum will incorporate personal insights, conversations, interviews, and in-depth knowledge of Lahaina to provide a comprehensive analysis of the situation and its broader implications, particularly regarding input and concerns from the Native Hawaiian population of West Maui.
