Description

For school mental health counselors, addressing racial trauma with preK–12 students requires intense cultural awareness and sensitivity. In order to understand how to better address these students’ needs, counselors must learn more about their cultures and the issues that they may face in their lives. In this micro-course, you will learn specifically how racial trauma impacts the mental health of children of color age 4–18 in school settings. Participants will learn about ways to broach the topic of race and racism in the counseling session and better assess for potential race-based trauma.
