Nursing professionals serve on the front lines within the healthcare environment. Nurses provide care in a variety of settings to patients. Nursing professionals are under undue stress, which impacts them emotionally. Within healthcare organizations, bullying is a cause for concern as aggression can impact patient and organizational outcomes. Bullying is identified as an emotion-based response, often triggered by challenges in the workplace. Workplace bullying continues to be an escalating issue that contributes to increased stress, toxic work environments, and decreased job satisfaction among nursing professionals. All these factors lead to a poor work environment, which is detrimental to organizations. Nurses are faced with the ability to recognize and address negative workplace behaviors, such as bullying. However, they may not be aware of the strategies needed to facilitate improvement. Nurses may not be aware of how to use emotional intelligence to lessen workplace bullying and violence. Therefore, educating nurses on how to use emotional intelligence to lessen workplace bullying and violence could foster a positive workplace for nurses in the future.
