Description

Primary care providers who are unfamiliar with the differences between depression and bipolar disorder may run the risk of misdiagnosing their patients. This micro-course will provide information that can assist them in recognizing when to screen for depression versus bipolar disorder in order to diagnose and treat appropriately.

  • Define the reasons misdiagnosis is so common.
  • Identify the differences between depression and bipolar disorder.
  • Describe the reasons screening is essential for correct and timely diagnosis and treatment.
  • Choose validated screening tools for bipolar disorder to help prevent manic episodes, self-medication, and suicide.
  • Apply knowledge gained in this micro-course directly to practice.

Criteria for Obtaining Contact Hours
