Whether you are entering the field of telehealth counseling or are looking to broaden your counseling reach beyond the confines of your physical office space, the Telehealth Counseling: An Introduction micro-course provides the foundational knowledge necessary to deliver telehealth counseling services to a larger population, including those who might otherwise not have access to such services.

This micro-course equips you with the essential skills to deliver telehealth counseling services and the knowledge needed to offer counseling services at a distance through real-world examples and engaging interactive content.

Note: This micro-course is designed to provide an introduction to the concepts of telehealth counseling. Please check with your local state board of examiners, secretary of state office, or other agency that governs the licensing and delivery of counseling services in your state to determine the certification and licensing requirements you may need to fulfill to offer such services to the public.

Faculty Bio

Dr. Cory Viehl, LPC, NCC, ACS

Dr. Cory Viehl, LPC, NCC, ACS is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia as well as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) through NBCC. He earned his PhD in Counselor Education and Practice with a cognate in multicultural supervision and practice from Georgia State University and was selected as an NBCC Minority Fellow in 2014. He has been in clinical practice for 12 years in various settings including IOP, college counseling centers, and private practice. His research and professional interests center on LGBTQI+ individuals in counseling, counselor education, and supervision. More specifically, his publications focus on sexual and gender diverse counselors and their experiences of minority stress, compassion fatigue, burnout, and coping.

Curriculum

Micro-Course 1 - Telehealth Counseling: An Introduction
In this micro-course you will be introduced to the purpose of telehealth counseling, the standards of practice that govern its delivery, and how to begin building competency in this modality of care. Given the growing need for distance-based care, you also will examine challenges and responsibilities facing providers of telehealth counseling, such as aiding in the client self-determination process, informed consent, inclusion, and other factors that must be considered to ensure appropriate care.

Accreditation

Walden University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 4546. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Walden University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Successful completion of this micro-course provides 1 NBCC clock hour; partial credit will not be offered.
