Description

Whether you have a mental health diagnosis or are a family member, caregiver, or friend of someone who does, you know that those with mental health disorders are a chronically misunderstood population. Activism is needed to reduce stigma around mental illness and increase mental health resources.

Create a different world for those with mental illness. Use your unique gifts, whether they lie in art, teaching, or even crafting. With this micro-course, you’ll be confident, motivated, and ready to contribute to the mental health movement.

What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion of this micro-course, you will be able to:

  • Identify three to five mental health activism areas that you are passionate about.
  • Clarify the gifts you bring to the activism table.
  • Identify three to five mental health activism options.
  • Find the perfect activism opportunity for you.
  • Create a plan to get started and stay motivated.

    Learn why focusing your passion is essential. Explore groups that are impacted by mental health activism. Consider the underlying issues affecting mental health activism. Identify a short list of three to five mental health activism areas that light your fire.

  • Your Activism Gifts

    Inventory the skills and knowledge you bring to the activism table. Evaluate your level of cultural competence and privilege. Understand your personal motivation.

  • Your Activism Options

    Learn about the types of activism options. You’ll explore traditional activism techniques such as advocacy and lobbying. Then you’ll explore creative options such as the arts and movement support. Make a list of activism options that motivate you.

  • Your Activism Opportunities

    Explore potential activism opportunities by matching your skills and motivation to techniques you enjoy. Identify at least one mental health activism opportunity that is perfect for you.

  • Your Activism Action Plan

    Prepare yourself for your activism by creating an action plan. Set goals to stay focused and motivated. Consider methods to manage stress.
